See Ya Later

Bird We early birds, hate when they say,
"We're out of early worms today."
Here is the thing I really fear:
Those worms all know when we'll be here.

To birds, late sleeping is a sin.
But these wise worms are sleeping in.
They're getting up just when they please.
While we old birds don't get our zzzzz.

They're waking up when we're tired out.
Then they appear and sneak about.
Most early birds are gone by noon.
We're going off the job too soon.

A robin who'd been out one night,
Told me about a bird's delight.
Worms were coming from the ground.
They just pop up and crawl around.

The biggest, juiciest worms of all
Don't come out in the day at all.
Here's what I learned on the Internet:
They're out at night when the grass is wet.

I'll slip out late when these worms play,
Just gobble 'em up, then sleep all day.
As I crawl in bed and close my eyes,
I'll pray for silly early bird guys.
