Sammy, the Olympic Snake

One day Sammy went walking by
The country club, it caught his eye.
When he heard funky music roar,
Sammy crawled right in the door.

As he coiled very near the pool
He saw something completely new.
Synchro swimmers were in the air,
In water, on decks, everywhere.

A swimmer named Katy talked to him
And encouraged Sammy to come right in.
He got on a suit, goggles and cap
And dove right in, that was that.

The coach taught him some simple moves
And showed him figures he could choose.
A figure eight was easy for him
But it was hard to keep up his chin.

He looked around for another snake,
He was the only one, for goodness sake.
The swimmers' caps were filled with curls.
There were no snakes just human girls.

All of these girls were nice to him
And he decided to stay to swim.
Sammy, the swimmer, got home late,
He was so hungry, he ate and ate.

That night he dreamed, this little boy,
Of the special prize he might enjoy:
An Olympic medal for his whole bunch,
He dreamed of Sidney and missed his lunch!

Sammy went to practice that night
And got the basics down just right.
When he tried Eggbeater, what a dread,
He fainted and they thought he was dead.

He needed legs to hold him high.
The folks were sad but could see why.
So his Olympic dreams were done
But trying out had been great fun.

When Sammy told his mom and dad,
They both praised him, though he was sad.
And now they are finding what it takes
To start an Olympic team for snakes!
