Old Curlycue

Animated 8 "Students," we heard the teacher say,
"We'll have to do without eight today.
Eight has a fever and is home with the flu
But while she is gone we have math to do.

"If eight is needed, to see you through,
Take a seven and one to go with you
Or use four twice or five plus three-
Even six and two and you're home free.

"With a larger number don't hesitate-
Subtract a number that leaves you eight.
Then add , subtract, multiply, divide
Until eight is well and by your side.

"During practice, tests or fun math games
Remember each number has many names.
Forgetting one number won't make you nervous
If you remember the others are at your service.

"Numbers, this evening it would really be great
To stop by and say, "We missed you, Eight.
We might substitute and muddle through
But we really do love old curlycue you."
