Can't Count on Math

Guy just missing the ball. This math confuses me, I find,
Especially when they change their mind.

They tell me 2 plus 2 is 4.
I got it! That is right before,
They go and change their mind once more.
Then tell me 3 plus 1 makes 4.

I learned that 7 was 5 plus 2
And now they've gone and changed that, too.
7 was making sense to me,
Till it was switched to 4 plus 3.

Sometimes I think that I am dumb
And learning numbers makes me numb.
My brother makes me more afraid.
Says, "It gets worse in second grade."
